Wild Bill's Fight Night VIII
Friday, April 13, 2007

Friday, April 13 saw Wild Bill’s Fight Night host a first. It was the first time that the venue had played host to a current UFC Fighter as Rory Singer took the main stage in a three-round battle against Matt Masterson.

Both fighters came in expecting a war as Masterson brought his 7-1 record with him and Singer sported his 14-8 record. Despite not having a spectacular record, Singer had faced much tougher opposition including several of his last fights being in the UFC in Las Vegas and Florida.

Singer won the fight via unanimous decision, much to the disappointment of Masterson.

There were two fights that could have easily been awarded Fight Of The Night as both brought the capacity crowd to their feet.

The fights was veteran Harris Norwood of Atlanta vs pro debut George Kassaev of Athens. Both fighters came to slug it out as the fight stayed a stand up battle throughout much of it. When the fight went to the ground, Norwood had the edge, although Kassaev did almost get the tap out a couple times.

In the end, the fight was stopped at the three-minute mark of round three. Kasseav had a bloody face which needed stitches in several places. Along with that he had received a concussion during the fight and later went to the hospital.

The other fight of the night candidate was Tom Nguyen vs Todd Carney. Nguyen was the hometown favorite and is undefeated at 4-0 in mma. But Carney has fought nearly 30 times as a professional and has a win over Jason “Mayhem” Miller, regarded as one of the top fighters in their weight class.

The fight went back and forth throughout the three rounds. Nguyen battered and bruised Carney with his standup and Carney nearly submitted Nguyen two or three times.

Many felt the two were tied after the second round. Nguyen came out for the third round and landed a few good shots to Carney’s face while standing. The fight later went to the ground and Nguyen dominated it enough to win a three round unanimous decision.

The second round of the 170 lb Tournament saw Dave Hulett of Alabama defeat Joey Whitt in less than a minute and Kentucky’s Brent Weedman beat Chris Connoley of Alabama in under a minute as well. Connoley lost due to a dislocated elbow.

In the finals Weedman won over Hutlett by tap out at the 2:41 mark of round one. Weedman will next rematch with Jake Short on Friday, June 8 for the 170 lbs ISKA Tournament Title.

Wild Bill's Fight Night VI
Friday, January 19, 2007

Everyone in the fight community knew that Wild Bill's Fight Night VI would have fireworks, but boy was everyone in for a surprise.

Fourteen total fights were on the card and some of the best fights in a long time were witnessed in one evening as there was knockouts, submissions, tapouts, upsets and several fights that went the distance.

Wild Bill's Fight Night VI also provided for the largest crowd to ever witness a fight at Wild Bill's as more than 3,500 people purchased tickets to witness the second round of the 155 lb Tournament.

UFC star Forrest Griffin was on hand to cheer on several of his teammates from the Hardcore Gym in Athens and the 2006 Georgia Fighter of the Year Award was handed out to Kevin Gittemeier of McDonough by co-promoters David Oblas of Undisputed Productions and Steve Mudder of Full Throttle Entertainment.

Full results are below.

Fight 1
Ben O'Sheilds defeated Jason Nicholson by tap out due to triangle choke at 1:25 of the first round.

Fight 2
Marius Cujba defeated Bob Cook 40 seconds into the fight by tap out due to triangle choke

Fight 3
Adam Longshore and Duke battled it out to a draw in muay thai. This fight was probably the fight of the night as both guys beat on each other from the beginning of the fight until the end. Both fighters have already agreed to a rematch on the Friday, March 2 Wild Bill's Fight NIght VII card.

Fight 4
Broke Kerry of Louisiana defeated Georgia's Ben Pierce at 2:03 of the second round by TKO.

Fight 5
In the first fight of the 155 lb Tournament, Jarred Card won a controversial fight over Chicago's Kevin English. The fight went the distance with Card winning a split decision in a fight that could have gone either way. This win was considered a mild upset as English is a highly ranked fighter and Card is naturally a 145 lb fighter.

Fight 6
In the second fight in the 155 lb Tournament, Athens' own Stephen Ledbetter was methodical in his win over Majeed Alkush beating him by unanimous decision.

Fight 7
The seventh fight of the night saw the second muay thai fight and the first female fight of the evening. Commerce's Rebecca Duran defeated Ashley Altman of Alliance Martial Arts via split decision in the 135 lb weight class. Duran has fought several times at Wild Bill's and will be seen again in the ring at Wild Bill's as she brings a work ethic matched by few female fighters.

Fight 8
The FOX 5 news cameras decided to follow around Athen's Dave Mewborn as he made his pro debut and nervous he was not! The young buck showed his skills by forcing the ref to stop the fight only 21 seconds in the first round as he defeated South Carolina's Steve Sawyer. Mewborn was able to knock Sawyer to the mat and was landing hammer fists as referee Blake Grice stepped in to stop the fight.

Fight 9
In a three-round war of attrition, Jeremy Stevens defeated Serg Daniltchenko of Jacksonville by tap out due to strikes at 2:20 of the third round.

Fight 10
Clay Harvison of Atlanta won by tap out 3:43 into round one by defeated newcomer Joshua Fountain of Atlanta.

Fight 11
In a fight where two warriors stood toe to toe for the whole three rounds, Hilton Head's Charles Nutt did enough to win over Hardcore Gym's Chad Shafer by unanimous decision. It was later discovered that Shafer broke his hand in round two of this fight, although one would have never known it has he continued to land bombs and kept the fight standing for 15 minutes.  Fight 12Charles Blanchard is quickly becoming one of the most feared 175 - 185 lb fighters in the Southeast as he pulled off a major upset by forcing Tim Stout to tap out due to rear naked choke only 4:34 into the first round. Blanchard's incredbile wrestling skills have helped him stay undefeated thus far as both an amateur and professional mixed martial arts fighter.  Fight 13The co-main event saw two-time UFC Heavyweight Kevin Jordan enter the ring to face North Carolina's Chris Herring. Jordan had not fought in more than a year and had lost two fights in a row. Herring had fought regularly in the past year and had won a few fights recently. While some fans suspected a possible upset brewing, Jordan would have none of that as he did his job in defeating Herring 1:19 into round one by tap out due to strikes. With a few more wins, Kevin Jordan of Columbus, GA, might be back in the UFC mix.  Fight 14It took all night to get to this point and not one person in the crowd had exited the building. It was time for Ledbetter vs Card for the 155 lb finals and to see who would earn the opportunity to fight Steve Kinnison in the finals on March 2. In what was a great fight from start to finish, the Hardcore Gym's Ledbetter proved to be too talented, too strong and too technical for North Carolina's Card as he pulled out the unanimous decision. With the win, Ledbetter set up a fight that many in Georgia have been pointing to as "The Fight" for more than six months now. On Friday, March 2, at Wild Bill's Fight Night VII, it will be time for the finals of the 155 lb Tournament.

It is time for Stephen Ledbetter for Steve Kinnison.

Wild Bill's Fight Night III
INVASION OF THE VETERANS
Friday, July 14, 2006

The only words that could be used to describe Wild Bill's Fight Night III: The Invasion of the Veterans could be to call it The Best.

The card was filled with 10 MMA bouts that many in the state of Georgia said was the most exciting card top to bottom and the beautiful venue of Wild Bill's played host to the evening.

With thousands in attendance and the Wild Bill's Wild Girls keeping the beers flowing all night long the action in the ring kept the fans on their feet from start to finish.

Stoney Hale of Tennessee and Paul Passmore got the action started with their 205 lb fight. The two went at it for three incredible rounds that saw Paul Passmore breaking his hand and injuring his nose. But the tough fighter from Georgia stayed in it till there was only a minute left when the fight was finally stopped. Hale won the fight, but both fightrs put on one of the best fights the city has seen in years, and this was from a couple of newcomers to the sport.

Cliff Fretwell of McDonough kept his undefeated record in tact with a huge win over an experienced Aaron Steele of Omaha, Nebraska. Fretwell showed off his boxing skills by knocking Steele down in the first round and nearly out of the ropes. Fretwell quickly jumped on top of Steele, but because they were on their way out of the ropes, the referee brought them back to their feet and to the center of the ring. Steele had several opportunities to end the fight as he had Fretwell in a rear naked choke on two different occasions, but Fretwell escaped both and continued pounded Steele and gaining valuable points on the judges scorecards. At the end, Fretwell won a split decision.

Dymond Jones, a 195 lb beast, continued to do what he's done thus far, win and win quickly. This time he took it to Sam King and won less than 20 seconds into the fight. At 200 lbs there's not too many people that can compete with Dymond Jones. It'll be interesting to see how far he goes.

Now it was time for the co-main event and the main event of the evening.

In the co-main event Marcus Davis of Boston stepped in the ring against Jason Hathaway of Georgia. Davis is a veteran of the UFC and was on the popular tv show The Ultimate Fighter. Hathaway is a member of the US Army and is weeks away from being deployed again overseas. Despite the toughness of Hathaway, Davis showed the crowd what they wanted to see by quickly disposing of Hathaway with a submission.

The main event saw tough as nails Tim Stout of Tennessee face Rick Reeves of Seattle. Stout is a veteran of the UFC and Reeves trains with the popular Team Quest in Oregon. Both these guys went out with guns blazing and fists flying. Reeves landed a shot that cut Stout on top of his eye and near his cheek which provided a wake up call of sorts to Stout. He then returned the favor landing a big kick to Reeves stomach which seemed to bother him. Stout followed it up a few seconds later by knocking Reeves out cold. Stout celebrated in his corner full of blood as Reeves laid on the canvas for a bit. Stout won the fight, but received 10 stiches in his dressing room. A thirty eight second fight ended what many called one of the best nights of MMA in Atlanta.

Wild Bill's Fight Night II
THE REMATCH
Friday, May 12, 2006

Nearly a year ago on July 8, 2005, Kevin Gittemeier and Steve Kinnison treated the crowds at Earthlink Live to one of the best fights of the year in MMA. It was a fight that saw two men stand and bang at each other all night long and hardly ever take the fight to the ground.

UFC star Forrest Griffin was in the crowd and felt that Kinnison won the fight, as many in the crowd thought as well. Kinnison was coming to the fight as a heavy favorite after beating one of Gittemeier's training partners only a few months earlier. But the judges awarded the fight to Gittemeier and a rematch was already in the works.

Now a year later it was time for Gittemeier and Kinnison to do it again, this time for the vacant ISKA Eastern United States Championship.

It was a year later and almost like two totally different fighters in the ring as Gittemeier dominated the fight from bell to bell never allowing Kinnison to get anywhere near a victory. Gittemeier made it easy for the judges this time winning all three rounds in domating fashion while securing the ISKA Eastern United States Championship.

Other fighters that caught the crowd's attention was Chris Zigler's domination of Micael Blasco with a quick first round rear naked choke. Zigler, a Wild Bill's security guard, put his 200 lbs to good use as he stormed out of the gates and submitted his opponent in his first fight ever.

Ran Weathers made quick work of his opponent Eric Strickland. At the weigh-in Weathers showed up heavy and Strickland elected to take a portion of Weathers' purse money rather than make Weathers drop the extra weight. Weathers showed him the next night that you don't take money from him as he ended the fight only 38 seconds into it on the mount striking down unanswered blow after unanswered blow when the ref stepped in.

Stephen Ledbedder, from Forrest Griffin's Hardcore Gym in Athens, continued his undefeated streak with a hard two round victory over Morrison Lamb. The two went back and forth in the first round, but Ledbedder's jiu jitsu experience allowed him to end the fight in the second round via submission.

Sam Holloway put his 245 lbs of solid muscle to good use in defeating Chris Herring early in the first round. Holloway, who is a chiropractic student at Life University and probably could win body building competitions, was just too strong for Herring.

Tom Nguyen showed the heart of a champion overcoming a shoulder injury in the first minute of his fight with Tim Williams to earn a decision in his fight after three rounds. After separating his shoulder in the first round, Nguyen fought the rest of the fight only using one arm. Nguyen also entertained the crowd with his ring entrance by having numerous Hooters girls lead him into the ring.

James "The Black Plague" Thorpe proved yet again that he deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as the best of the best in Georgia by quickly disposing of overmatched Brandon Quigley. Thorpe dropped Quigley early then proceeded to soccer kick him and end the fight in dominating fashion.

Wild Bill's Fight Night
BAD BLOOD
Friday, March 24, 2006

Wild Bill's Fight Night saw a main even that sent shock waves throughout the MMA community in the state of Georgia.

Kevin Gittemeier and Cam McHargue had not seen eye to eye on many issues and the bad blood had been spilling over for nearly two years. Gittemeier, a McDonough resident, and McHargue, a Macon resident, had been talking about fighting each other for some time and the time finally came.

Both fighters were so confident of a victory that they both agreed to fight each other for Winner Take All of $6,000. The winner was leaving with the largest MMA pay day ever in the state of Georgia and the loser was leaving with nothing.

The fight went the full three rounds with Gittemeier winning a unanimous decision (29-28) on all three scorecards.

McHargue landed a devastating kick in the first round which dropped Gittemeier and won the round for McHargue. But that would be the end of his offense for the rest of the night as Gittemeier simply dominated him in rounds two and three dropping him several times, pinning him in the corner and landed unanswered blow after unanswered blow against McHargue.

At the end of round two Gittemeier landed more than 20 unanswered blows.

A total of 11 MMA fights were on the card.

Atlanta's Friday Night Fights
In front of another sold out crowd at Earthlink Live, David Oblas' Undisputed Productions put on another high energy fight night with six No Holds Barred (Mixed Martial Arts) fights.

The Cheetah girls came out in full force throwing nearly 300 giveaway items to the crowd as the official ring card girls of Atlanta's Friday Night Fights. PONY (the athletic shoe company) also stepped up and donated nearly 200 hats, tshirts and wristbands for the girls to toss to the crowd. The ring announcer, Southside Steve from 96Rock, was superb as always and 680 The Fan was on site for a live radio broadcast from the fights from 7 pm till 10 pm.

Many in the crowd ended up buying tickets on their way out to the next installment of Atlanta's Friday Night Fights to take place on Friday, July 8 at Earthlink Live.

The results of the April 29 fights are below:

Cliff Fretwell of McDonough, Georgia, USA (2-1, 149) defeated Jaral Bowman of Atlanta, Georgia, USA (0-2, 145) by armbar tapout at 2:17 of round 1.

Darren Roberts of Atlanta, Georgia, USA (1-0, 172) made the most of his MMA debut as he defeated Joseph Bauserman of Winchester/Gore, Virginia, USA (2-7, 169) by choke tap out at 1:44 of round 2

Brian Bowles of Athens, Georgia, USA (3-0, 144) defeated Philip Peterson of Birmingham, Alabama, USA (1-3, 142) by choke tap out at :58 seconds of round 2.

James Thorpe of Atlanta, Georgia, USA (2-0-1, 294) was planned to fight Harry Moskowitz. However when Moskowitz failed to show up at weigh-ins, in stepped Jerome Smith of Americus, Georgia, USA (8-5-1, 235). Thorpe took rounds 1 and 2 by a 10-9 score. However, Smith had the stamina to not only win round 3 but won it convincingly with a score of 10-8 on two of the three judges cards. In the end the fight was scored a majority draw, 28-28, 28-28 and 29-28.

Kevin Gittemeier of Atlanta, Georgia, USA (7-1, 170) continued his winning ways with an impressive victory over Dale Sapp of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, (4-3, 167) by triangle choke at 1:20 of round 1.

Quincy Sutton of Atlanta, Georgia, USA (3-0, 177.5) was the clear underdog entering his match with Chatt Lavender of Snellville, Georgia, USA (14-5, 170). However, numbers didn't matter much to Sutton as he took it to Lavender and won by TKO due to strikes at 4:20 of round 1.

The combination of professional boxing and No Holds Barred fighting in one venue again rocked Atlanta as the Tabernacle was sold out nearly three days in advance of the Friday, Jan. 23 fight card.

Newnan's own Ebo "The X-Treme Machine" Elder came back after a two-year layoff with a third round knockout of Tennessee's Tyrone Wiggins. With the win Elder moved to 17-1 with 11 KO's and proved that the two-year layoff has only made him stronger and hungrier. Look for "The X-Treme Machine" to return on the Friday, April 2 card at the Tabernacle.

In other boxing bouts Xavier "The X-Man" Tolliver won via first round knockout and Tennessee's Joseph Harris upset Athens' Chris Jordan.

In the co-main event, Anthony "Mad Dog" Macias came to Atlanta and defeated the hometown fighter, Kevin Gittemeier, via an ankle lock in the first round.
